SUMMARY:Ethical Dangers of Isolation (CLE #549376)(Approved for one ethics credit)
DESCRIPTION:Loneliness and isolation present an urgent public health challenge\, prompting the U.S. Surgeon General to issue a public health advisory to urge the nation’s immediate awareness and action.  As lawyers\, we have been identified as the loneliest workers in America\, and our isolation presents a significant risk to our mental and physical health and our ability to conform to our professional obligations.  This program explores some of the causes and effects of isolation\, the impact on our professional responsibilities\, and ways we can address both causes and effects of isolation by building a culture of connection and mutual care in the legal profession.  (One Minnesota Ethics Credit sought) Free registration: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/U0aEzN14R0S90fAIRNUOnw

SUMMARY:Balancing the Scales: A Dialogue on Attorney Well-Being (CLE #551144)
DESCRIPTION:Attorneys work in a high-stakes\, intellectually demanding environment\, oftentimes marked by strict deadlines\, perfectionism\, isolation\, and exposure to difficult case material. This CLE examines the unique stressors faced by attorneys and places them within the broader context of the legal profession’s well-documented mental-health and substance-use challenges\, including anxiety\, depression\, burnout\, and problematic alcohol use as well as the various ethical obligations of the professional. Participants will learn to identify common sources and warning signs of stress and impairment\, explore practical strategies for managing workloads and personal and professional stressors\, and learn about confidential support options and how to seek help without stigma. The program is designed to normalize these experiences and equip litigators with realistic tools to protect their well-being during throughout their years practicing. (Chase Andersen\, presenting)(Pending one MH/SU credit) Free registration

SUMMARY:Moral Injury in the Legal Profession: Naming Harm\, Interrupting Shame\, and Cultivating Healing (by Professor Natalie Netzel)
DESCRIPTION:This one-hour program examines moral injury as a significant and increasingly recognized contributor to mental health challenges in the legal profession. Moral injury arises when lawyers are repeatedly exposed to\, participate in\, or are constrained by professional roles and legal systems that produce outcomes in conflict with their deeply held moral\, ethical\, or professional values. While lawyers are accustomed to discussing stress and burnout\, moral injury captures a distinct form of psychological harm that implicates meaning\, identity\, and integrity. Taught by distinguished faculty person\, Professor Natalie Netzel. Registration \n
