We join with others in our community in mourning the tragic death of George Floyd and its wake. Our hearts are heavy.
Robert Benham, former Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court, noted that the first professions in society were, the clergy, who healed the spirit, the doctors, who healed the body, and the lawyers, who healed the community. The community needs us as healers now, but we must also care for ourselves. We feel sad, angry, helpless, disappointed, sick, and more. These emotions can help us commit to working for equity and understanding in our legal and larger community.
Talking about and processing these feelings is important for individual and community healing, and our profession will play a role. LCL is available to provide support however we can. Counselors are available 24/7 if you need someone to talk to. There is much work to be done moving forward and LCL is here to help.
