Help for Colleagues in Crisis CLE # 546556

May 20 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Mental health and addiction issues are a serious problem in the legal profession. Stigma about these conditions stands in the way of asking for or offering help. This program is designed for colleagues and managers who may observe changes in behavior that give rise to concerns. It discusses how to recognize and obtain help when you, a work colleague, or another professional colleague may have a substance use, mental health, or other issue that affects behavior, conduct, and performance. Topics include understanding the issues, special considerations for remote work, approaching the lawyer (including interventions), arranging assistance such as treatment, and practice management issues during and following a reduced work schedule or leave of absence. Colleagues can save careers, families, and lives by taking action. This course is designed to educate attorneys to identify colleagues who may be suffering from chemical health or mental health related impairment. By educating attorneys about the misconceptions surrounding chemical health and mental health issues, they will be better positioned to eliminate barriers to hiring, retention, professional development, and full participation of attorneys disabled by chemical or mental health issues.
