Lawyers vs. the State of the Profession, CLE #532868 (one mental health credit received)

October 21 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The legal profession is known for its high-pressure environment, demanding hours and caseloads, and its adversarial nature. These stressors can chip away at a lawyer’s confidence and emotional health and can result in mental health issues, professional dissatisfaction, or substance use issues. This course will provide insight into these challenges and discuss ways lawyers can positively manage stress and build resiliency. This seminar will explore key factors contributing to stress, anxiety, and burnout, focusing on the pressures and expectations of litigation. It will highlight the importance of workplace support in fostering healthier work environments and promoting well-being among legal professionals. The discussion will also emphasize the role of civility and professionalism in reducing stress and improving professional relationships. Additionally, lawyers will learn the importance of being proactive in managing their mental health. Finally, the presentation will provide strategies and guidance for attorneys and firms/offices to better equip themselves to handle professional and personal stressors and will provide information about pertinent resources, including Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers (Minnesota’s lawyer assistance programs), EAPs and other supports available to assist attorneys and their staff with these complicated issues. (Chase Andersen and Nate Bjerke presenting)
